When installing a PC, only the M/B and CPU power connector are connected, the PSU sometime shut down right after power on. When the HDD or ODD is connected, the system will work normal. Why?
Can ENERMAX EPS12V EG851/651AX-VH (W) FM power supply be compatible PC system with Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD AM2 CPU?
My new ENERMAX PSU makes a strange "zap" sound, when turned on!
What should I be aware of, if I want to buy a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with my PC?
My system monitoring software shows "PSU fan speed error" warning all the time. Is this normal?
After I bought and installed an Enermax power supply, system reboots automatically and cooling fans keep running at low speed. Is it the problem that fan failure causes system reboot?
Can I use 6-pin PCI-E power connector to replace 6-pin SSI Workstation power connector for certain Server/Workstation board? (Such as Tyan S2895, S2885, S2665)
Why the EPS12V EG651/851AX-VH models can not start up after installation?
Why my M/B can't read the rpm?
What does "PFC" mean?
What's that an extra cable in box of FC and FCA series for?
When I using EG465P 450W Power Supply, the temperature reading of the power supply at BIOS is 127 C, is this normal? Or it's a warning sign?
What's the function of the 3 pin housing?

A1: Except for the maximum output limitation, there is also the minimum load requirement of the PSU. (The minimum load requirement of the ATX12V form factor is about 15W.) If system loading fail to meet PSU specified DC minimum load requirement, the PSU might not be able to maintain the DC voltage output stability. In this situation, the PSU will stop working in prevent system damage.

This occurs more with the dual core processors with energy saving design introduced after Q3 2006. Due to the very light CPU +12V power draw at boot-up stage, it fails to meet the +12V minimum output loading condition of the PSU, therefore, the PSU will turn off automatically for protection. Once you add a HDD or ODD, this will meet the PSU minimum load requirement, and everything will work fine.

A2: Now it has been confirmed that discontinued EPS12V EG851/651AX-VH (W) FM power supply might not be compatible with new Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD AM2 energy saving design CPU PC system.
This power supply series is designed base on 2003 SSI EPS12V power supply design guide for server/workstation application, which allows +12V1 and V2¡¦s minimum load requirement up to 36W. However, nowadays PC system¡¦s new energy saving CPU could consume less than 15W power in boot up sequence or in system idle mode. As the result, this will not meet this power supply¡¦s minimum load requirement and will turn off the system for protection.
From 2006, ENERMAX power supply series has modified the specification to meet new PC system eco design and would not have this compatible issue.

A3: This sound actually is valid for all our active PFC ATX12V 2.2 & 2007 EPS12V PSU's. IE NOISETAKER II, LIBERTY, FMA II & GALAXY.
The sound arises only, when you do a cold start and is no malfunction at all. This is unavoidable, because the PFC circuit (power factor correction) is started. Before we and other PSU manufacturers had always in stand-by mode +5Vsb and PFC active. We have changed this for all our active PFC ATX12V 2.2 to +5Vsb only. Removing the active PFC from standby increases the standby efficiency from less than 20% (zero load, just +5Vsb line active) to more than 50%. Therefore you have not heard this ¡§zap¡¨ from our older lines. This start in any way creates such noise and can not be "silenced". But since it is for your money (your electricity bill) and only half a second long, we hope you can accept it as a feature and not a malfunction.

A4: Any UPS has 2 common types of AC output waveform in battery mode: Sine Wave type, and simulated Sine Wave type.

If your power supply has Active PFC function, you must purchase Sine Wave type UPS. On the other hand, if your power supply is without Active PFC function, you can use either Sine Wave type or Simulated Sine Wave type UPS.

Please also make sure to have a UPS with a battery reserve of equal or more output than the PSU you are using. For a 400W PSU we recommend a 400W+ UPS.

A5: Enermax PSU adjusts its own fan speed automatically according to the thermal detector in PSU. The fan speed will be adjusted to 1000~1500 rpm when you turn on the computer or during low loading. However, the minimum fan speed was set at around 2000 rpm for most system monitoring software or BIOS. That's why you keep receiving the warning.

1. It always happens and depends on your software. You can still use it without worrying.
2. Or you may set the minimum fan speed of your system monitoring software at 1000rpm.
3. Or you may disable the warning function.

A6: 1. There are many causes might lead to system reboot, such as hardware short-circuit or incompatibility between hardware, OS data loss, SPS voltage (signal) abnormal, and so on.

2. The fan speed of Enermax power supply is adjusted automatically on the basis of the temperature inside power supply. For example, if system only draws 200W from a 550W power supply, fan speed shall not increase under such condition of light loading and low inner temperature.

3. There is no connection between system reboot and low fan speed. If fan speed cannot increase due to material defect, power supply can be overheating owing to insufficient cooling. Power supply shall latch into shut down state, not reboot.

4. From above question, we cannot determine whether or not power supply is normal (system may reboot because of abnormal PG signal or output voltage). Therefore, we suggest a careful check on power supply and peripherals attached to the system.

5. If user is unable to find out the cause, please return power supply for RMA.

A7: DO NOT DO THIS!! It will damage your motherboard and power supply. The 6-Pin PCI-E and 6-Pin Workstation connectors look the same, but their DC output configuration are totally different. The 6-Pin PCI-E power connector provides only +12V DC, whereas 6-Pin Workstation power connector provides +3.3V DC and +12V DC, If your server/workstation board requires 6-Pin SSI Workstation power input, please make sure that the power supply provides such power connector

A8: According to Intel EPS 12V 1.6 Ver., the minimum load of each +12V rail is higher than ATX 12V. You might try to install more peripherals to meet the min. load and start up your system.

A9: We have received some feedbacks from end users that few M/Bs are unable to detect the fan rpm of PSU through the BIOS or software. For your reference, our power supply has noise killer function and the lowest speed shall be around 1200?0% rpm at cold start, and might be under BIOS/software setting to some M/Bs. Under such condition, BIOS/software could fail in fan rpm detection and then signals the audio or visual warning. Therefore, after installing Enermax power, we suggest our customers to disable the BIOS/software setting over PSU fan rpm detecting or if possible to reduce the BIOS/software setting of the threshold/limit.

A12: There are lots of detect functions in BIOS, but Power supply does not provide the temperature to M/B, so the temperature detected is fake.

A13: 1. FM & FMA Series: The power supply has a 3 pin housing as Fan Monitor Connector (FMC), with two wires attached, which M/B uses to monitor the speed (RPM) of the 8cm power fan. Please refer to the M/B user guide in order to check if M/B contains power fan connector (could be printed on M/B as "PWR_FAN" or "PWR FAN") as a standard feature or not.
Note : If M/B has no such terminal for FMC or FMC is not connected to M/B, 8cm fan shall be working normally but no RPM reading is available.

2. FC & FCA series: The power supply has a 3 pin housing as Fan Monitor Connector (FMC), with three wires attached, which M/B uses to:
¡EMonitor the speed (RPM) of 8cm fan
¡EStop 8cm fan as system switches to sleeping mode (S1 mode as defined in ACPI)
Power up cooling fan attached to this connector as System power on or wake-up
Please refer to the user guide of M/B you use in order to check if M/B contains power fan connector (could be printed on M/B as "PWR_FAN" or "PWR FAN") as its standard feature or not.

Note : Due to circuit design of FC power supply, the electricity to power up 8cm fan comes from M/B not from power supply itself. If M/B does not offer such terminal for FMC or FMC is not connected to M/B:
¡EThe 8cm fan shall not spin even after system powers on.
¡ENo RPM reading is available
